oooooooooooo I am so excited to share this recipe with you! This is the first time making a Latte at home with my blender, and it turned out OH SO YUM!
A few weeks ago I had to question my health a bit as I was noticing that my focus on everything else was making my body suffer. Our health must always come first. So, I made the decision to dive head first back into my love for herbs. We have three large shelves in the kitchen cupboard dedicated to loose leaf herbs, tinctures, teas, and powders. It has taken some time to create this inventory, but I am so grateful for it as these herbs have cared for my and my husbands body for the past few years.
It is so nice to open the cupboard door and just create! I mostly enjoy creating medicinal tea blends, but lately my body has really been enjoying Adaptogenic herbs & mushrooms
Adaptogens are herbal plant-medicine here to support the physical body in time of stress. And, I would say right now that many are feeling a bit uncertain, anxious, and stressed with such sudden change. When the body is under stress, it becomes more susceptible to pathogens.
Adaptogenic herbs support the body by:
* Reducing Stress
* Reducing Adrenal Fatigue
* Reducing Adrenal Exhaustion
* Supporting the Kidney & Heart
Mushrooms are one of the most medicinal foods on the planet. Mushrooms have become widely known for their micronutrient properties to fight cancer, improve brain health, and boost the immune system. Here are just a few of the ways that mushrooms support the body:
The Adaptogens and Shrooms I chose for this Latte are:
Astragalus: Medical Medium says it best. "Astragalus is an essential herb for your immune system and is well known to help fight viral & bacteria infections, inflammation, and even cancer. It quickly and effectively strengthens the immune system and increases white blood count which makes it highly beneficial for warding off and reducing the effects of colds, flu, respiratory ailments, herpes, shingles, and immune system disorders."
Ashwagandha: rich source of zinc, magnesium, calcium, and iron.
Chaga Mushroom: cleansing of pathogens to fight viral/auto immune. Antioxidant powerhouse.
Reishi Mushroom: calming, can aid with sleep/anxiety/depression and focus
Now, it is time to share this super yummy and immune supportive at home Latte!
16 oz plant-based milk (almond, coconut, hemp, oat)
1/2 tsp Astragalus Powder
1/2 tsp Ashwagandha Powder
1/2 tsp Reishi Powder
1/2 tsp Chaga Powder
1 TBS Raw Local Honey (I used Ginger honey for an added immune boost!)
- you can substitute the sweetener with dark maple syrup for an added Thyroid/Adrenal boost or opt out of sweetener entirely
1. Bring your plant-based milk to a simmer on the stove top. Once it starts to bubble up, give it a swirl in the pot, then pour into your blender.
2. Add in the rest of the ingredients. Blend 20-30 seconds.
3. Pour into your favorite mug.
I do most of my herbal shopping from Mountain Rose Herbs. But, if you don't have time to wait for shipping, OM is a great mushroom brand, and you can get most herbs in loose / powder form from your local health shop.
I do hope you try and enjoy your latte. Please post and tag @truedesserts online !
Remember, it is ok to not have a cupboard full of herbs when you are first starting out. This took me six years to build up to! It is also ok to not know any of this. The shift in your health is when you choose to take it one detail, one moment, and one day at a time. It is when you choose to do the research, to reach out to someone and be inquisitive that you will start to store all of this in your brain. It is also ok to not be able to afford all of this at one. Give yourself grace. Give yourself time. Keep a notebook of what you are learning, what you want to try, and start your inventory with one item. You could even make this Latte with just ONE of the powders! The point is to just give it all a try and start with one thing. Evolve from there. And, as always, please reach out if you have any questions. <3
In Peace, Love, and Health,
